Webquest

You will be conducting a webquest about

MAIN IDEA.
Make sure you write down your answers on your own paper as you complete each section (this will be your grade for this activity).

The main idea of a piece of writing is the central point the author is trying to make. This can be an opinion, arguement, or general idea. Most of the time, not all the time, the main idea is usually near the beginning and sets up the rest of what the writing will be about. To find the main idea of a passage there are a few questions you can first ask yourself.

Is what am I reading about ...?
1. Person
2. Idea
3. Theory
4. Event

EXAMPLE: Summer is a wonderful time to spend at West Beach. It is a beach with light-colored, soft sand. The coastline goes on for a long way and many people enjoy walking along it. Children like to play in the surf and walk along the rocks that are visible atow tide. This is a fun beach for people of all ages.

The topic is: West Beach
The main idea is: Summer is wonderful at West Beach.
